Agriculture plays a significant role in the economy of the world. The whole world depends upon agriculture for survival. Over the years there has been an increase in the demand for agricultural production particularly considering the world's population and need to provide food security all over the world. With the advancement in technology new farming methods have been introduced, which are gradually replacing traditional farming methods. Smart farming is the concept of farming management through Information and Communication technologies including, Artificial Intelligence, big data, the cloud, and the IoT for tracking, monitoring, and analyzing operations to increase quality, leading to what can be called a Third Green Revolution. Smart farming is growing in huge due to the expanding global population, the excessive demand for high yield crops, and the need to use natural resources efficiently.

Smart farming Technologies:

Sensors for soil scanning, humidity and temperature management, water, and light.

⮚ Telecommunications like GPS and advanced networking.

⮚ Data Analytics tool for prediction and decision making. It is an important part of smart farming as the quantity of data obtained from crop yields, climate change, fertilizer applications, weather data.

⮚ Satellites and drones are for getting the data around the field. This data is forwarded to IT systems for tracking and analysis that makes remote monitoring easily possible.

Autonomous robots, sensors (IoT), drones are expected to become the pillars of smart farms. These technologies are already changing the way agriculture is practiced. Some of them are Autonomous and robotic labour, seeding and planting, automatic watering and irrigation, weeding and crop maintenance, harvesting from the field, drones for imaging, planting, crop spraying, real-time monitoring and analysis, and more.

And also these can reduce heavy labors and tedious tasks which improve the quality of farmworkers life. If we mainly concern small farmers, for the hard work is their input and most of the time economic losses are their output. Drought and famine contribute major losses to farmers. Floods, bad weather, high amount of chemicals and fertilizers, poor quality seeds are their common relatives. Climate change, land relief, soil vegetation are natural factors affecting agriculture.
